Check Employee's old iPhone (if applicable)
- Connect phone to Wi-Fi (not cellular)
- eduroam - Login using full Mason email address and password
- Amped_TitanAP_2.4 - password MasonAP24
- Amped_TitanAP_5.0 - password MasonAP5
- Ask employee what needs to be brought over to the new iPhone (i.e. contacts, photos, messages)
- Check for iCloud account > Go to Settings
- If they have an iCloud account, check Settings > [Name] > iCloud and ensure Messages, Photos, and Contacts are synced and if iCloud account is over storage limit (Basic is 5GB).
- Reset Face ID and Passcode > Go to Settings
- If applicable, turn off FaceID Lock by clicking Reset FaceID
- Reset the passcode to 000000 if it’s not already set (required for remote wipe)
Activate New Employee iPhone
- Get new iPhone box with the employees’ name. Confirm phone number matches.
- At the Hello screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen
- Select preferred language > "United States" > Appearance = Continue
- Quick Start
- If they have an old iPhone, put the new iPhone close to the old iPhone.
- The new iPhone will prompt you to scan an animation on the old iPhone.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on the new iPhone to transfer settings and data.
- If no old iPhone, click Setup Without Another Device
- If they have an old iPhone, put the new iPhone close to the old iPhone.
- Set Up Wi-Fi > "eduroam" > have employee sign in with their Mason email including @gmu.edu and password, Click Trust
- Verify identity zip code: 22030 (Only required for numbers that are porting from Verizon)
- Cellular Setup Complete > Click Continue
- Remote Management > Click Enroll this Phone
- Wait for the Remote Management Enrollment screen and tap “Next”
- Phone will display "Configuring iPhone" **If this screen does not appear, stop and get help.**
- Software Update > Click Update Now > Agree (approx. 20-30 min)
- Set passcode to 000000 (all zeroes)
- Continue through the remaining setup prompts (enable allow location)
Install and Setup Apps (Home Screen)
- If they have an old iPhone, sync phone data
- If iCloud Account is under storage limit
- On new phone, Go to Settings > Click Apple Account > Click Use Another Apple Device and place phones next to each other
- For No iCloud Account or iCloud Accounts over storage limit (Basic is 5GB)
- Transfer all phone data including messages
- Open iTunes on PC and connect old phone
- Open phone and wait to click Trust
- Back up old iPhone to your computer
- Once backup is complete, disconnect old iPhone
- Connect new iPhone, restore iPhone from Backup and select old iPhone
- Delete backup in iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Devices
- Transfer Photos Only
- Connect phones using cable
- Open Photos app on both phones
- Transfer Contacts Only
- On old iPhone, open Phone app and select Contacts
- Go to Lists and hold down until Export
- Select Airdop
- Turn on Airdrop on new iPhone
- Transfer Contacts
- Transfer all phone data including messages
- If iCloud Account is under storage limit
- Verify call out and in, Turn off Wi-Fi
- Open the Self Service app (may need to close it and re-open or restart the phone)
- Install the following apps if not automatically installed (May see duplicates but chose either): Asset Essentials, Duo Mobile, Outlook, Teams
- Setup Duo Mobile (if applicable)
- Go to 2fa.gmu.edu on a browser on the old iPhone,
- Click Manage 2FA > Login with employee username and password
- Click Duo 2FA and review device(s) > Ask if they want the new iPhone set as default device
- If phone number is already listed, select Click to activate link
- If phone number is not listed, Add A New Device” > “Phone” > “Smartphone”
- Device name: “Mason iPhone”
- Enter the phone number (no extension)
- Tap “I Have Duo Mobile Installed”
- The new phone should receive a text to activate in Duo App (can also scan/hold and open QR code)
- Open Outlook, have employee login with Mason email and password
- Open Teams and select employee email
- Open Asset Essentials, type gmu in Client ID and have employee login
- If the employee uses iPhone as Mason ID
- Remove from old iPhone:
- If you are replacing your current device, open the Apple Wallet app on your old iPhone and select the Mobile ID card pass.
- Tap the info icon (i) in the top right corner and select "Remove Card".
- Add to new iPhone:
- Open the Atrium Campus Connect app on your new iPhone.
- Follow the prompts to activate your card and add it to the Apple Wallet app.
- You may need to log in with your university credentials to activate the card.
- Once activated, you'll see a green "Active" status.
- Enable Express Mode (important for access control):
- Go to your iPhone's Settings app, then Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Under "Other Cards," select your Atrium card and ensure that Express Mode is toggled ON.
- Express Mode allows you to use your card with a simple tap without needing to unlock your device.
- Remove from old iPhone:
- Show the employee Self Service app for downloading apps as needed
Final Steps
- Update Verified Tracking List Excel column titled Issued Date with current date.
- For new iPhone
- For old iPhone
