Instructions to Clearing Cache for Microsoft Teams
If your Microsoft Teams is running slow or can't start, clearing the cache will probably help.
Step-by-step guide
- Step 1: If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar, and then select Quit.
- Step 2: Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key +R.
- Step 3: In the Run dialog box, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and then select OK.
- Step 4: Delete all files and folders in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams directory.
- Step 5: Restart Teams.
Step 1: Quit Teams
- Right-click on the Teams icon in the taskbar and select Quit.
To ensure Microsoft Teams is closed, we will have to close the application within the task manager.
- To close Teams from the task manager, right click the Task Bar and click on Task Manager.
- End all instances of Teams within apps.
Step 2: Open Run Application
- Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key +R.
Step 3: Enter a Command
- In the Run dialog box, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and then select OK.
- You will see the a file directory open with many folders.
Step 4: Delete Files
- Delete all files and folders in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams directory.
You should be able to safely delete the folders but if any of the packages in there are necessary they will just be cached once again.
- Press Ctrl + a to select all the files then press the delete key.
- The folder should be empty afterwards
Step 5: Relaunch Microsoft Teams
- Relaunch Microsoft Teams. You may be prompted to sign back into Teams.
