This guide will assist you in using the anti-virus software, Malwarebytes.  Additionally, the steps below can be used when operating Malwarebytes on any Windows PC or Apple Macintosh devices:

Step #1: Download and Install Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes contains free and premium versions of their software, however, in this guide we will be walking you through the free version of their software.  Thus, you can download and install the software from the following links on their website:

Windows PC: https://www.malwarebytes.com/premium

Mac: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac

Step #2: Modify Scan Settings

1. Once the software has been installed and its control panel is open on your screen, click on the settings icon in the top right corner (the gear icon).

2. After clicking the settings icon, you will be taken to the Malwarebytes settings section where you will next need to click on the "Security" option.

3.  Next, under the "Scan options" section, ensure that  "Scan for rootkits" and "Use expert system algorithms to identify malicious files" are activated.

Step #3: Start a Scan

After modifying your system scan settings, you can conduct a scan of your system by clicking the "Scan" button at the center of the home screen.

If the scanner detects any anomalies, it will automatically quarantine them.  Once they are quarantined, you can remove them from your system by first clicking the "Detection Card", which will show each quarantined anomaly, and then all you need to do is select each anomaly by clicking the check box next to each one and then click the "Delete" button which will remove the anomaly from quarantine and your system.

Step #4: Restart your System

After you quarantine and delete the identified anomalies, restart your computer and repeat the first step of this article in order to conduct an additional scan to verify whether the anomalies have been removed.
