Troubleshooting Windows PC Internal Speakers

Modified on Wed, Jul 6, 2022 at 2:49 PM

Users will occasionally encounter an unexpected audio issue with their Windows PC which prevents them from being able to hear audio play through their computer's built-in speakers.  Thus, to troubleshoot this issue, we have outlined two possible solutions that can be used to diagnose and resolve this issue:

Method #1: Change Audio Output

1. Click on the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your home screen.

2. Once the Speaker pop-up has appeared, click on the upward arrow "^" and then select your preferred audio output device (i.e. internal speakers, headphones, etc.).

Method #2: Update Audio Device Driver

1. Click on Search in the taskbar of your device and search for "Device Manager."

2. Once Device Manager is open, click on Audio inputs and outputs and right-click on Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio).

3. Select Update Driver and allow the system to check for any new driver updates.  Once Device Manager is open, click on Audio inputs and outputs and right-click Speakers(Realtek(R) Audio).

4.
If the system found and installed a new update, restart your device and repeat the steps in Method #1. However, if no new updates were found, please submit a ticket to Facilities IT for further assistance.
